Cross-Pollinations: Jeffrey Ansloos & Liz Howard

Join the League of Canadian Poets, the Health Arts Research Centre, and the Canadian Association for Health Humanities for the next iteration of the Cross-Pollinations Virtual Rounds Series.

Join us on September 25th for a Cross Pollinations event on the theme of Indigenous health and place-based care. This event will feature a reading by poet Liz Howard, professor of creative writing and and award-winning author of Infinite Citizen of the Shaking Tent and Letters in a Bruised Cosmos. We will also hear from clinical psychologist, educator, and researcher Jeffrey Ansloos, whose work touches on the sociopolitical and socioecologic dimensions of health, anticolonial methodologies, and youth mental health.

Jeffrey Ansloos is an author, clinical psychologist, educator, and researcher. He is an Associate Professor of Indigenous Health and Social Policy and the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Studies in Health, Suicide Studies, and Environmental Justice at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. He is Cree and English, and is a citizen of Fisher River Cree Nation (Treaty 5).

Liz Howard is a poet, editor, and teacher. Her work explores Anishinaabe ways of knowing, cosmology, ecology, and the liberatory potentials of language as art. Her first collection, Infinite Citizen of the Shaking Tent, won the 2016 Griffin Poetry Prize and was shortlisted for the 2015 Governor General’s Award for Poetry. Her second collection, Letters in a Bruised Cosmos, was shortlisted for the 2022 Griffin Poetry Prize and the Trillium Poetry Prize. She has completed creative writing and Indigenous arts residencies at the University of Toronto, the rare Charitable Research Reserve, University of Winnipeg, McGill University, University of Calgary, UBC Okanagan, Douglas College, Sheridan College, and for The Capilano Review. She is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Concordia University. She is of mixed settler and Anishinaabe heritage. Born and raised on Treaty 9 territory in Northern Ontario, she currently lives in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal.
