Call for Submissions — Beyond the Concert Hall: An Anthology of Sound

May 31

Free

Submit to Beyond the Concert Hall: An Anthology of Sound, the next anthology by Edmonton-based Laberinto Press!

Submission Guidelines:

Composer John Cage was poet John Ashbery’s musician of choice when it came to expanding his writing in innovative directions. Cocteau’s The Human Voice choreographs silences across phone lines to tell the story of a toxic relationship. Iconic Brazilian musical Black Orpheus re-tells the ancient myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, with Afro-Brazilian inspired musical numbers. Music is silence, it is the cacophony of carnival, an improvised sing-along, that earworm that will not leave our brains, the urban frenzy of the city streets cursing through our bodies, the words and voice of our dear ones.

Edited by Laberinto Press’s Director, Luciana Erregue-Sacchi, the last anthology of the Beyond Series by Laberinto Press, titled: Beyond the Concert Hall: An Anthology of Sound invites Canadian writers to submit writing on musical experiences, and general experiences of sound, or silence. Special consideration will be offered to submissions by graduate and undergraduate Arts students and hyphenated Canadian authors.

Each submission should contain the following:

Poetry: three poems or ten pages;
Prose (Fiction, Non-Fiction): 10-12 pages.

All submissions should be double spaced, Times New Roman Pt. 12.
The contributors will be paid an honorarium.
