Job Posting: Coordinator for Decolonial Initiatives and Indigenous Programming

November 25, 2022, 5:00 PM EST

Free

Poetry In Voice/Les voix de la poésie provides teachers with engaging educational resources and a variety of poetic experiences, in French and in English, to inspire their students to read, recite and write poetry. Poets create and present our programs and projects in the classroom, bringing contemporary poetry directly to young people.

We are committed to bringing poetry and poets (of Indigenous and non-Indigenous backgrounds from across Canada/Turtle Island) into the schools and communities of First Nations, Métis and Inuit / Indigenous youth. We would like to partner with Indigenous poets, artists, community and educational groups to ensure that we can better understand their needs, create collaborations with integrity, and offer appropriate programming.

The Indigenous Programming will be developed by Indigenous poets and/or educators. Our aims include creating initial Lesson Plans and other resource materials, visiting classrooms both virtually and in-person, augmenting our online anthology with new selections of Indigenous poetry, in their original languages and in translation, if possible, and highlighting recitations of Indigenous poetry in their original languages at our National Finals.

Start date: January 2023

Duration of contract: six month part-time position with the possibility of extension

Hours: 14 hours per week, which must be spread over a minimum of three days. National Finals may require more than 14 hours per week in March and April. Apart from in-person events, all tasks are carried out from home.

Remuneration: Between $25,000 and $35,000 per year, depending on experience

Advantages: 3 weeks of paid vacation the first year and 6 weeks from the second year of work
