Woodstock Writers Festival
April 7, 2016, 12:00 AM – April 10, 2016, 12:00 AM EDT
The Woodstock Writers Festival began in 2010, when a group of writers, including Abigail Thomas, Susan Richards, Laura Shaine Cunningham and Martha Frankel, got together with Barry Samuels, the former owner of Woodstock’s independent bookstore, The Golden Notebook, and graphic designer Ken Schneidman, and thought: Why don’t we put on a show? We can invite our friends and the writers whose work we admire, and bring readers from around the country to hear them, against the backdrop of the gorgeous Catskill Mountains.
Among the people we were lucky enough to rope-in that first year were Susan Orlean, Julie Powell, Ruth Reichl, Marion Winik and Dani Shapiro! Over the next few years, we hosted Pulitzer winners Paul Muldoon and William Kennedy; Man Booker Prize winner Lydia Davis; crowd favorites Cheryl Strayed, Philippe Petit and Augusten Burroughs; world renowned artists Mary Frank and Joan Snyder; and those who just took our breath away Mark Whitaker, Shalom Auslander, Andre Dubus III, Ann Hood — and many, many others.
