On Thursday, August 25 at 6pm, join Massy Arts, Massy Books, and Vancouver-based literary magazine PRISM international for the launch event of this Summer’s edition – Issue 60.4.

At this in-person event, writers Alice Turski, Brandi Bird, K. Ho, Helen Luo, and Fiona Tinwei Lam will read from their works. There will be a brief intermission in which those who want to participate in a trivia contest about the Vancouver Literary Community can test their knowledge to win back-issues of PRISM international!

This event is free + open to all of our community, and registration is mandatory. The gallery is wheelchair accessible and a gender-neutral washroom is on-site.

Covid Protocols: For all in-person events, attendees must provide proof of vaccination, wear a mask (N95 masks are encouraged and recommended as they offer the best protection), and consent to having their temperature checked at the front door. Alice Turski received her MFA from Cornell University, where she also taught as a Teaching Fellow. A finalist for the 2021 Gatewood Book Prize, her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Verse Daily, The Iowa Review, The Greensboro Review, Iron Horse Literary Review, and more.

Brandi Bird is an Indigiqueer Saulteaux, Cree and Métis writer and editor from Treaty 1 territory. They currently live and learn on Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh & Musqueam land. Their work has been published in Catapult, The Puritan, Poetry is Dead, Room Magazine and others. They are a 4th year BFA student at UBC and live with their three cats, Babydoll, Burt and Etta.

K Ho is a writer and photographer from the unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples. Their lyric essay “Dispatches” won The Fiddlehead’s 2021 Creative Nonfiction Contest, and their work has appeared in PRISM Magazine, THEM lit, the National Arts Centre, and elsewhere. They are completing their MFA in creative writing at the University of Minnesota.

Helen Han Wei Luo is a Chinese-Canadian writer from BC and is currently a philosophy PhD student at Columbia University. In addition to poetry publications, her prose has twice been long-listed for the CBC Literary Prize. She is currently completing a radically feminist novella retelling Han dynasty Chinese mythology, titled Elegy for Daji.

Vancouver’s 6th Poet Laureate, Fiona Tinwei Lam has published three poetry collections and a children’s book. Her poems have been featured in Best Canadian Poetry and in award-winning poetry video collaborations. Shortlisted for the Vancouver Book Prize and other awards, her work has been included in over 40 anthologies.

PRISM international is a quarterly magazine out of Vancouver, British Columbia, whose office is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm people. Our mandate is to publish the best in contemporary writing and translation from Canada and around the world.
