Salon Series: Dionne Brand
September 11, 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM EDT
FreeAward winning author of 23 books of poetry, fiction and non-fiction, Dionne Brand, joins us to discuss her new novel, Salvage – her first work of non-fiction since the release of her groundbreaking A Map to the Door of No Return over twenty years ago.
In Salvage, Brand interrogates the colonial, racist tropes found in classic literature and her own experience of reading and deconstructing dominant cultural narratives as an act of defiant self-creation. Part memoir and part cultural criticism, Salvage challenges the role played by “the classics” in continuing to push damaging colonial rhetoric.
In conversation with author and professor of English literature, David Chariandy.
Q&A and book signing to follow. Books available for purchase.
