Writing Poetry About Grief and Loss During the Pandemic
June 25, 2020, 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM EDT
An event every week that begins at 6:30 PM on Thursday, repeating until July 9, 2020
Participants are encouraged to write about any kind of grief and loss—including, but not limited to feelings of grief related to this pandemic (the many losses – not necessary the loss of a person–e.g. loss of community, connection, intimacy, nature–to name but a few). All levels of writing experience welcome. This four-week workshop will involve discussion of in-class readings that I will provide, writing exercises, and an opportunity to workshop your poems/receive feedback from peers and from myself. I will also provide extensive written feedback on your work.
Workshop leader Jacob Scheier is a Governor General’s Award-winning poet. He is currently a volunteer peer-facilitator of support groups for Bereaved Families of Ontario. He has taught workshops on writing about grief and loss for nearly a decade including at Ryerson University’s continuing education program and with diverse communities across Ontario and in the Yukon.
