This year the Saison Poetry Library at Royal Festival Hall celebrates its 60th birthday, and the Southbank Centre is holding a very special birthday party. The event will be hosted by Simon Armitage, with readings by Fleur Adcock, Daljit Nagra, Warsan Shire, Jen Hadfield, Kei Miller, Tom Raworth and Brenda Shaughnessy, with more to be confirmed.
The library, whose holdings date back to 1912, was established by the Arts Council in 1953 and speakers at the opening included TS Eliot and Herbert Read. Having found several homes across London, it moved to Southbank Centre in 1988. It now holds over 200,000 items and is the largest collection of modern and contemporary poetry in the UK.
