Open Submissions June 1st to September 30th

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES AND INFORMATION:

FreeFall pays for all published work: $10/page prose up to $100 and $25 per poem plus a copy of the issue the work is published in

A submission consists of 1 prose piece up to 4000 words or 3 poems

We accept simultaneous submissions but please notify us if your piece is picked up by another magazine

We do not publish previously published works: online, digital, or print

A response by email will take anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months

Please note: We buy First North American Serial Rights and First Digital Publication Rights only. After publication, copyright reverts to the author

HOW TO SUBMIT FOR THE OPEN ISSUES

FreeFall Magazine will no longer be accepting submissions outside of Canada except for our Annual Prose and Poetry Contest.

All of our reading staff volunteer their time to bring each issue to life. If you are able to donate $3.00 towards compensating our volunteer readers, you may do so here.

Prose: Maximum length 4000 words

Fiction: short story & novel excerpts, non-fiction, writing related or general audience topics, creative non-fiction, plays, postcard stories. Payment is $10.00 per page in the magazine, to a maximum of $100.00 and one copy of issue that your piece is published in. Payment is made upon publication.

Poetry: Submit 1-3 poems, any style. Length of any individual poem cannot exceed 6 pages. Payment is $25.00 per poem and one copy of issue that your piece is published in. Payment is made upon publication.

Art: Black & White photographs of Original Artwork or photographs of any other subject matter. Photo format – submit as black & white to a maximum size of 6” x 4” — minimum of 300 dpi, as artistname_title.jpg. FreeFall pays $100.00 for cover art/photo and one copy of the magazine upon publication. We also provide the artist/photographer a one page bio inside the issue to promote themselves. FreeFall considers queries with a proposal for the following: author interviews or author focus (guidelines supplied when proposal approved) and book reviews (guidelines supplied when proposal approved). Payment is $50.00 and one copy of issue in which your piece is published. Payment is made upon publication. Direct queries to – editors@freefallmagazine.ca

Short story and poetry submissions may also be considered for distribution in Calgary Public Library’s Short Story Dispenser. Pieces that meet the Library’s guidelines will be published in the Short Story Dispenser at least 3 months after appearing in FreeFall magazine. Stories will be considered if they are less than 1200 words, contain suitable content for all ages, and are written by authors with ties to Alberta. Authors will not receive further compensation for having their work published in the Short Story Dispenser.
